Igor Maskin is keeping parrots for more than 10 years. During this period Igor met a lot of parrots, wild caught and hand raised alike, that had different behavioral problems. Helping their rehabilitation had become Igor’s main interest.
In 2000 Igor started to participate in different consulting groups that work to develop parrots’ wellbeing in captivity. His articles about parrots’ diet, about special lighting and about correct education of birds were published in different languages. Igor is a co-author of the book (“Parrots: keeping and training” Project-F, Moscow, 2006) that was published recently.
In 2002 Igor became one of the first graduated disciples of Dr. Susan Friedman’s on-line course “Living and Learning with Parrots”.
In 2003, in frame of his interest for different enrichment possibilities, Igor started to teach his parrots to fly outside. At this moment some of his macaws and African greys fly outside daily.
Today Igor is living in Jerusalem and runs an educational program “Parrot School Int.” He advises many parrots’ owners in Israel and in other countries (USA, France, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine and Italy).
In 2006-2007 Igor was the lector on the First and Second workshop for parrots’ owners in Moscow as well as on different events in France, Latvia, Portugal and Israel. Igor is participating in different educational and conservation projects. Member of WPT, IAATE and ABMA. |
